Day 6 of what started as an experiment simply to write a post a day for seven days, and has turned into something bigger: an experiment in gentle momentum.
On Day 4, after I’d written that day’s post, I was chatting to someone and said, “I think I know what tomorrow’s post will be.”
“I don’t know what Days 6 and 7 will be yet.”
There have definitely been times in the past when not knowing would have felt like a problem. I would have thought I should have the whole thing planned before I started.
Instead, I heard myself say something like, “This is a gentle momentum experiment. I don’t think I need to know that yet. It’s not the next step.”
The whole point of what this experiment has become is gentle momentum. Any opinion I have about how it’s going doesn’t count. That includes whether I’ve got it all mapped out in advance. It also includes any judgement I have about me having that opinion not counting.
I don’t know about you, but I can have some pretty strong opinions about my other thoughts and opinions!
Do I know what Day 7’s post will be about?
No.
Maybe it’ll be about Tuesday’s Bring Your To-Do List afternoon and inviting other people to come and experiment with gentle momentum too. Perhaps it’ll be about a huge insight that’s struck me. Or maybe it’ll be about something completely ordinary.
I guess the question of whether there will even be a post tomorrow is yet to be decided.
I look forward to finding out.
